Jean's Favourite Bible Verse

Ecclesiastes 3:1

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven."

This is one of my favourite Bible verses.    You really need to read right through to verse 8 for the full picture.

I have come to learn that no matter what may be going on in my life, good or bad, there is a reason for it and a purpose.  And so, I must trust in the Lord for He already knows the final outcome.

Making Lent Count

Lent can be a great time to draw near to God.  We hope our Lenten Calendar, with its schedule of readings and church activities will help you do just that.

We're not doing it right?

It has been noted that though Lent is a time of fasting, most of our events are about eating. Yes, 4 dinners, from Shrove Tuesday through to Holy Wednesday! In our defense, Sundays are never included in Lent - every Sunday is a feast day, as it is the weekly commemoration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. And though our Seder Meal is Wednesday instead of Maundy Thursday, celebrating passover can hardly be considered breaking Lent, can it?

The Wednesday Bible Study is just getting started on the Gospel of Mark, so it's a great time to join us. Along with the scheduled reading of the Gospel of John throughout Lent, you'll know the gospel backwards and forwards by Easter.

Next on the Agenda:

March 16 - St Paddy's Eve Dinner - download the Poster and help us get the word around!

March 30 -  Pea Soup Lunch

And God Bless you.

A Summer Project

Have you ever attempted to memorize key scriptures as a way to keep God's word close at hand? I've been trying out an app on my Android phone called "RememberMe" (also available for Iphone)

RememberMe has a number of preset lists of scriptures, and allows synchronization across multiple devices. RememberMe keeps track of which scriptures you've learned, and does a great job of helping you to review them to keep them fresh in your mind.

The best part is the many ways to practice scriptures, including flash cards, and several puzzles.

If you have been learning to read the New Testament in Greek, I've prepared a set containing the first chapter of John's Gospel in greek. On the RememberMe account site, register/sign in and search for language "el" (not "en")among the public sets, and you'll find it.
